Bed/Chair Exit Alarm
PROXI-MATE Human Presence Sensor
The PROXI-MATE HPS (Human Presence Sensor) can be used
as a Bed or Chair Exit Alarm. It is designed to alert care staff when ‘at
risk’ individuals rise unaided from a bed or chair.
Interface/alert options
- The Standard Alarm interfaces with any nurse call system
that has a removable, plug in type, call bell pendant. When the monitored
individual rises from the Sensor Mat the device activates the nurse call
system in the same way as a resident pressing the call bell for assistance.
- The Pager Version is mostly intended for home use but
could be useful in any location that either lacks a nurse call system or
prefers not to connect to it. This is a wireless system with a about 100-200
meters range (depending on environmental factors).
Wireless Pager Alarm -
There are three main components to the Pager type system.

HPS Bed/Chair Exit Alarm with Pager
- 1. The Sensor Mat – this thin, flexible vinyl mat
is placed directly on top of the mattress, usually lengthwise along the
centre of the bed, roughly where the residents lower back is expected to
be. The mat is covered with a plastic sheet, draw sheet or kylie to protect
it from damage and to prevent the resident feeling the mat through the bedclothes.
For use with a chair simply place the sensor across the seat with the wire
in an inaccessible place and cover with a sheepskin or kylie.
- 2. The HPS Alarm Transmitter – contains
the electronics that monitor the mat and a radio transmitter to signal the
pager. The HPS has the capacity for a call pendant so that the patient can
call for assistance. The HPS runs on 4x AA (6 month life)
- 3. The Pager Receiver -
is a small, portable, simple to
use pager with a belt clip and rechargeable batteries. The pager has 2 LEDs
that indicate whether a call was initiated by pressing the pendant or by
the sensor mat. HPS pager has low battery indication.

Monitor More Than One Bed:
The Wireless Pager Alarm can cater for up to four HPS Alarm
Transmitters on each Pager Receiver. The sequence of beeps from the pager
indicate which bed has caused the alert. Contact Technical Solutions for more information.

Standard (Wired) Alarm -
There are two main components to the wired in system.

Bed Mat Sensor and Standard Alarm Interface
- 2. The HPS Interface Unit – contains the electronics
that convert the signal from the mat into a form suitable for the nurse
call system. A lead from this interface plugs in to the call system. The
HPS runs on 4x AA (6 month life)
