Minspeak & Unity
- A New Way Of Communicating.

PRC communictors use a language strategy called "Minspeak" which aims to increase a user's speed of communication. The emphasis is on producing spontaneous and novel messages, rather than relying on pre-stored sentences. Instead of spelling, a user presses a series of pictures in a special sequence known as "Unity." Words in Unity are stored in very predictable patterns, so once a person learns the patterns, they can start exploring and finding new words without having to be taught each word.

Minspeak and Unity allow for very rapid generation of messages - once a user learns the patterns they should be able to say any of the 3000 core words and phrases by pressing a sequence of 3 or less pictures. By comparison an average English word is 5 letters long plus a space, so a person using Unity should be able to generate words at least twice as fast as they could through spelling. Pathfinder, Vantage and Vanguard also have a regular spelling keyboard with Word Prediction.

Users can do a combination of spelling, Minspeak and Word prediction. With Minspeak & Unity, an AAC user can learn to access all the vocabulary he or she wants – and never be constrained by the limitations of pre-stored messages or page navigation.
