Handle Bar Switch
The Handle Bar Switch was designed specifically for people with Cerebral
Palsy (CP). The switch needs very little pressure to operate and various adjustments
can be made to suit the user. The handle bar and arm rest design helps the
user's hand stay located on the switch and can help reduce strain and fatigue.
The switch and mounting tray is designed to sit on (or be attached to) a
wheelchair or desk, with a computer or similar communication device in front
of the user. It was designed to prevent repetitive strain injuries (RSI) by
helping the user stay sitting and looking straight ahead. The switch can be
positioned to suit left or right handed users and the height of the arm rest
in relation to the grip bar and switch can be set so as to minimise stress.
The switch angle and sensitivity can also be adjusted.

Many people with CP have communication difficulties and can benefit from the
use of a speech out put communication device. Many of these devices, however,
necessitate the repeated and prolonged use of a switch. A switch which is
difficult to use can cause muscle strain and also frustrate the user. This
can be a major problem when teaching a child with CP to use a switch and communicator.
The Handle Bar switch is designed to minimise strain and allow the user to
communicate effectively with a communication device.
