Tellus Smart

The Tellus Smart is a portable, hand-held speech generating device with the high quality Australian RealSpeak. Digitized, or recorded voice can also be used. Messages can be generated by text-to-speech, by selecting stored phrases and by selecting Picture Communication Symbols (PCS). Both 'dedicated'' and unlocked models are available to meet funding guidelines.


ACCESSING | direct access is available using a finger or stylus (supplied). The accessing area is determined by the size of the cells designed when making a new display. Fewer cells will produce larger areas. The unit is turned ON and OFF using a small ruberized button at the centre top above the display. Touch screen settings can be varied using "acceptance time" and "post selection time" milliseconds delays.

PORTABILITY | the light weight and slim design design of the Tellus Smart makes it suitable for active, ambulant individuals. An elastic strap is located behind the unit's casing so that a hand can be slipped through for support. It is recommended, however that the unit is kept in the sturdy case supplied. It is zipped into the unit which has a Velcro closure flap providing access to the display. The carry case has a metal loop to which a belt or lanyard could be fastened.

• power | internal rechargeable batteries provide up to 8 hours of 'on' time. The display will dim after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve power. After 2 minutes of inactivity the unit will turn itself OFF. Two internal batteries operate - one for the hardware platform and the other for the speakers. The TOOLS section of the program displays a battery level indicator.
• the unlocked model includes pre-installed Microsoft software programs.
• colour casings | standard unit has black case upper and bottom. Alternative colours are available but are supplied as 'special order' only and an extra cost. Available colours are case tops - blue, grey, white | case bottoms - green or grey. Customised coloured cases are not held in stock in Australia. Colour combinations must be specified at the time of ordering. No specification indicates 'standard' black casing.
• keyguards, wheelchair mounting and scanning options (alternative access) are NOT available.
