We have developed a 6-1evel, 10-message communicator for visually impaired persons. This unit has dimmable 30-watt fluorescent tubes. When used with our 12-volt wall transformer, it provides intense background illumination. The icon holders are transparent which allows the therapist to use clear or transparent icons for high visibility viewing. Record and re-recording is accomplished by simply pushing a button. The unit records ten 5 sec messages on 6 levels.

This portable symbol communicator can store 6 messages on 6 levels for a total of 36 6 second messages. Touch one of the six removable tactile symbols to activate a message, and at the same time you will feel a vibration, which can be turned off if not desired. Messages can be recorded and rerecorded as often as you wish.

Tactile symbols are a graphic language system using concrete or abstract representations that are both permanent and changeable and can be tactually discriminated by an individual who is totally blind or dual sensory impaired. Included is a recommended starting kit of 6 tactile symbols: Bathroom; Something wrong; Drink; I want; Finished; Eat.
