Weighted Blankets

Weighted Blankets can be an aid to deep pressure touch stimulation (DPTS). This is believed to release a chemical in the brain, which naturally calms. They can be used to provide a calming soothing effect for almost any agitated person. Research internationally has demonstrated that a weight of 5-10% of a persons body weight is effective in relaxing or creating a feeling of calm.

Weighted Blankets may prove beneficial for children, teens and adults affected by ADHD, ADD, PDD-NOS, those on the Autism Spectrum. Sensory Integration Disorder, Bi-Polar or have other sensory issues. They may also aid in the reduction of agitation in aged care clients with the onset of Dementia.

Our Weighted Blankets consist of a heavy cotton calico insert covered with a 100% Cotton Drill cover. Ties in the corners secure the insert to the cover and ensure that the weight stays spread evenly across the blanket. . Each blanket is supplied with removable weight bags weighing 100g each. These can be inserted into the pockets across the blanket to adjust the weight as desired. Pocket openings and covers are secured by Velcro.
